Question Anonymous Hackers Responsible for PSN Attack?

Post by SPADEZ Wed May 04, 2011 1:14 pm

*Please read the following article and then vote on the poll above ^

I'll get straight to the point on this one.
Anonymous has claimed to not have been responsible for the PSN outage that started on April 20th 2011.

Anonymous in a public statement wrote:...Sony is incompetent... While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it...

While they said that, here are 2 things they've said on April 21st 2011 on their Facebook page:
Anonymous Hackers Responsible for PSN Attack? Www_fa11

In one post saying "..you may not be able to enjoy things because of our actions.."

In the other post saying "..Take a break from online gaming for a while... it will help your skills... which by the way are a bit out of order if they are being shackled by the PSN being down. We have no qualms about our actions..."

What seems to be a contradiction that Anonymous claims no involvement in the PSN Attack but says they have no qualms about their actions.

On April 27th 2011, Anonymous wrote this on their Facebook page:
Anonymous Hackers Responsible for PSN Attack? Www_fa12

Then, later on May 4th 2011, Sony releases their response to the U.S. House of Representatives saying this:
Sony - Patrick Seybold // Sr. Director, Corporate Communications & Social Media wrote:We discovered that the intruders had planted a file on one of our Sony Online Entertainment servers named “Anonymous” with the words “We are Legion.”

Keep in mind that Anonops says they hold no responsibility, HOWEVER, they say other Anonymous members could have acted on their own. So it wasn't an official operation from Anonymous, just a side job?

As of right now... It seems clear that Anonymous is responsible for the PlayStation Network attack and the stolen data of millions of PSN Users personal information such as credit card data. Regardless if members of Anonymous acted alone on this, those people are still Anonymous.

Anonymous has not given a response to this yet, but I will keep everyone updated when they do. Any thoughts on this?

Bet it was an inside job using the Anonymous title to throw everyone off? Anonymous just seems more like a hacking activist group trying to prove a point, but not necessarily 'harm' anyone- more to exploit. Wouldn't be surprised if a few Sony employees got the boot during these shenanigans..the truth shall surface..dun DUN DUUNN. affraid

Either way the length of time is ridiculous, Annonymous said they didn't do it, then they said they did do it to prove a point, then they said they were sorry for upsetting gamers. The bottom line is they are f$%# boys. Some virgins, no life having, attention seeking f#%$ boys. You can't do anything on-line without leaving some kind of trace, I don't care how good you are. They will get caught and pulled out of their mom's basement one at a time, they will all be made examples of, I'm pretty sure about that. I hope they each get the max penalty for their bs. They are screwing around on a global level with things that are way way beyond them. I think they are just enjoying the spotlight, funny for a group called Annonymous. That will just serve to get more of them busted sooner. F#%$ Annonymous, they don't help anything and they aren't going to change anything. Just be a funny little foot-note we'll forget about soon enough. Just like Con-Fikr, or Y2K.

The truth is, it doesn't matter who did it at this point, Sony is just coming over ever single transaction so when they move with the lawsuit they can get every penny they want, at the expense of us waiting forever. I am so sick and f#$%ing tired of waiting to play DCUO, I can't even imagine what it's been like for people that have been playing the super hardcore SOE MMORPG's like EQ2 and FFXI. Sony needs to quit with the false hope and these vague time frames that never pan out. I think this ammount of time, especially for pay-to-play people is getting unacceptable, bottom line, unacceptable.

I always thought it was Anonymous..

I like this whole "liberation of rights" thing they have going on ...

    Really.

    its "Hilarious".

Considering the fact they used to be nothing more than a group of organized internet trolls and a Hate group.

Some of yall may have seen this news report on them already from a 3-4 years ago; but this is the True Anonymous...

Not that "Assburger Liberation Front" they want to be seen as..

Question Re: Anonymous Hackers Responsible for PSN Attack?

Post by SPADEZ Thu May 05, 2011 2:51 pm

Anonymous response saying they have no involvement in the Sony attack:

Anonymous Hackers Responsible for PSN Attack? Www_tw10

    source

The Anonymous statement in full -

Anonymous Hackers Responsible for PSN Attack? Anonymous-logo-001
    Anonymous wrote:
Last month, an unknown party managed to break into Sony's servers and acquired millions of customer records including credit card numbers. Insomuch as that this incident occurred in the midst of Anonymous' OpSony, by which participants engaged in several of our standard information war procedures against the corporation and its executives, Sony and other parties have come to blame Anonymous for the heist. Today, in a letter directed to members of Congress involved in an inquiry into the situation, Sony claimed to have discovered a file on its servers, presumably left by the thieves in question, entitled "Anonymous" and containing a fragment of our slogan, "We are Legion". In response, we would like to raise the following points:

    1. Anonymous has never been known to have engaged in credit card theft.

    2. Many of our corporate and governmental adversaries, on the other hand, have been known to have lied to the public about Anonymous and about their own activities. HBGary, for instance, was caught lying a number of times to the press, to the public, and to Anonymous itself (in this phone call, for instance), CEO Aaron Barr makes a number of untrue statements regarding the intent of his "research", claiming for instance that he never tried to sell the information to the FBI when emails acquired soon showed that he had been set to do just that; executive Karen Burke was also caught lying to Bloomberg about having not seen an incriminating email that she had in fact replied to just a few days before]. The US Chamber of Commerce lied about not having seen the criminal proposal created by them for Team Themis; Palantir lied about not having any idea what their employees were up to; Berico publicly denounced a plan that they had actively engaged in creating; etc. There is no corporation in existence will choose the truth when lies are more convenient.

    3. To the contrary, Anonymous is an ironically transparent movement that allows reporters in to our operating channels to observe us at work and which has been extraordinarily candid with the press when commenting on our own activities, which is why reporters prefer no talk to us for truthful accounts of the situation rather than fallacious public relations departments of our targets.

    4. In the realm of criminal investigation, there is an important aspect of investigations that should never be overlooked. The "modus operandi" of a criminal rarely changes. Whoever did perform the credit card theft did so contrary to the "modus operandi" and intentions of Anonymous. Public support is not gained by stealing credit card info and personal identities, we are trying to fight criminal activities by corporations and governments, not steal credit cards.

    5. It should be remembered that several federal contractors such as HBGary and Palantir have been caught planning a variety of unethical and potentially criminal conspiracies by which to discredit the enemies of their clients. This is not a theory - this is a fact that has been reported at great length by dozens of journalists with major publications. Insomuch as that our enemies have either engaged in or planned to engage in false flag efforts, it should not be surprising that mangy of the journalists who have covered us, who know who we are and what motives us - and who have alternatively seen the monstrous behavior of those large and "respectable" firms that are all too happy to throw aside common decency at the behest of such clients as Bank of America and the US Chamber of Commerce - also have their suspicious that some capable party performed this operation as a means by which to do great damage to Anonymous in the public eye. Those who consider such a prospect to be somehow unlikely are advised to read about what was proposed by Team Themis in their efforts to destroy Wikileaks, and should otherwise take a few minutes to learn about COINTELPRO and other admitted practices by the US intelligence community. The fact is that Anontymous has brought a great deal of discomfort to powerful entities such as Booz Allen Hamilton, Palantir, and much of the federal government; the Justice Department in particular is likely happy that our efforts revealed that it was they themselves who recommended the now-discredited "law firm" Hunton & Williams to Bank of America in order that the latter might better be able to fight back against Wikileaks. Al of this is now public record, and those or other entities may have again engaged in unsavory tactics that they are known to have engaged in in the past.

If a legitimate and honest investigation into the credit card is conducted, Anonymous will not be found liable. While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our "leadership" does not condone credit card theft. We are concerned with erosion of privacy and fair use, the spread of corporate feudalism, the abuse of power and the justifications of executives and leaders who believe themselves immune personally and financially for the actions they undertake in the name of corporations and public office.

Anunymous will continue its work in support of transparency and individual liberty; our adversaries will continue their work in support of secrecy and control. The FBI will continue to investigate us for crimes of civil disobedience while continuing to ignore the crimes planned by major corporations which use their services.

We do not forgive, even if others forgive our enemies for those things for which we are attacked.
We do not forget, even if others fail to remember.
We are legion, and will remain so no matter how many of our participants are raided by armed agents of a broken system.
    We are Anonymous.
    Expect us.

    Post by Zendog420 Thu May 05, 2011 3:13 pm

I don't believe anything they say, this could be them catching too much heat and getting scared. I like how they say that they haven't done credit card theft before... That's cute, but there is a first time for everything, and moreover, just because no one has caught them doing it before doesn't mean they haven't already. Annonymous is an attention craving garbage squad and I can't wait till they get destroyed. Now they want to make the FBI look like a goon squad. Fail... The FBI is comprised of 95% data analysists that sit behind a desk and try to catch f#$% boys like Annonymous. I know it's fun to think of them like the way Hollywood portrays it, but truth be told, gun-toting, black-suit wearing G-men are few and far between and let's not forget what they really do best, handle kidnappings, not whatever conspiracy theorist crap Annonymous wishes were true.
