Sony unwrapped PlayStation Move this week at the Game Developers Conference 2010 in San Fransisco and says it will be available this year, most likely in the fall.
The Move, Sony’s answer to the Nintendo Wii’s wand, works with its Eye video camera and software game titles designed specifically for remote, one-handed wireless control of 3-D action. While the device will control all varieties of kicks, swings and strokes (paint strokes as well as tennis strokes), there also are controller buttons for more conventional shoot-’em-ups.
The PS Move will be available in a starter pack, bundled with the Eye camera and a game title, for about $100, says Peter Dille of Sony Computer Entertainment. It will also come as a stand-alone product, and eventually arrive packaged with the PS3 console hardware.
Among the titles in development are fighting and shooting games, including one called Sports Champions, which is a package of mini games including gladiatorial swordfighting, archery, golf and table tennis.
There’s a video of the formal introduction here. Expect to hear more about Move software at the E3 video game expo in June in Los Angeles.
