Yesterday on Aug 23rd 2011 at approx. 1:50pm (EST) an earthquake hit Virginia with a 5.8 magnitude. The earthquake was felt throughout Washington D.C., and went as far as Toronto Canada. I myself, who lives in NYC, was at work when the earthquake occurred. My chair vibrated for about 30-40 seconds and everyone was in a panic since we never get earthquakes. Ironically, it just so happened that NY in fact did receive an earthquake in Albany of a 2.2 magnitude and only extended about 18 miles of the epicenters radius. Which is very small and not enough for us in the city to feel it, however we did manage to feel Virginia's quake.
The earthquake cause small damage, such as the Washington Monument was actually cracked as shown in this image here:
Certainly a scary situation considering the east coast of the U.S receiving earthquakes is like it snowing in Africa O_O.
