We’re seeing dozens of Kinect hacks every day, but after dozens of hacks that allow you to play all sorts of video games with the Kinect on different platforms, today we have one hack that might actually come in handy for surgeons.
As you know, remotely controlled robots can now perform surgeries, but those surgeries have a single flaw and that’s a lack of feedback. In order to gain feedback, students from University of Washington decided to use the Kinect. It’s simple, the hack uses the Kinect’s technology to create 3D maps of a person’s body with a special software created by the students, and with the combination of 3D maps and force feedback, surgeons will have more control during the operation. In addition, thanks to this software, surgeons will be able to limit their movement for more precision.
