Just yesterday we reported the news of GeoHot moving to the Windows Phone 7 platform after being impressed with seeing how Microsoft dealt with the Windows Phone 7 jailbreak / unlock team that created Chevron WP7. The welcoming message Microsoft seems to be sending out to developers seems to be much more comforting than the likes of Apple and Sony which have been causing quite a bit of trouble for GeoHot. He mentioned the following on his blog:
perhaps a more appropriate way to deal with jailbreakers
I’m going out to buy a Windows 7 phone
Just a few hours later, the Director of Windows Phone 7, Brandon Watson tweeted an open message to GeoHot that said the following:
#geohot if you want to build cool stuff on #wp7, send me email and the team will give you a phone – let dev creativity flourish #wp7dev
We aren’t sure if what Brandon tweeted was in a direct response to what GeoHot posted on his site but it seems like that is the case. Unlike Apple and Sony, this new and friendly approach Microsoft is taking with hackers seems to be promising for the community as it will surely help the Windows Phone 7 platform grow more rapidly.
What do you think of the whole ordeal? Do you wish that Apple and Sony would take a similar approach? Or do you think what Microsoft is trying to do won’t work? Let us know in the comments below!
