PSP Go's price drops to $199 Empty PSP Go's price drops to $199

Post by Ben Wars Mon Oct 25, 2010 11:34 am

Sony has dropped the price of its PSP Go gaming handheld from $249 to $199.
Sony's price cut is a shot over Nintendo's bow. With the price cut, Sony's handheld is now just $30 more than Nintendo's DSi XL, $50 more than the DSi, and $70 more than the DSi Lite.

Sony's PSP Go page still displays a $249.99 suggested price. But six of the seven retailers than Sony's site links to are selling it for $199. The seventh site, Buy.com, lists it for $208.

The PSP Go is somewhat unique in the handheld gaming arena. The device features no disc drive. Instead, gamers download the titles they wish to play. Those who want to buy Sony's universal media discs and pop them into a PSP are required to buy the PSP 3000, which sells for $169.99.

Sony's decision to cut the price of the PSP Go is likely due to its slow sales. In August--the last month in which market researcher NPD reported hardware unit sales--Sony sold just 79,400 PSP units. In August 2009, by contrast, the company sold 140,300 PSP units.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's DS platform is still going strong. In August, the company sold more than 342,000 handhelds.

As soon as they figure out a way to integrate Home on this thing, I'll be buyin it Smile Price drop? Ossum. Home on the go? Yes. Home overload? Maybe. Obsessed much? pfft. >_> Would I really buy it if we COULD get on Home? uh chyeaahhh.

Although personally, I don't think I'd fair well with a hand held gaming device, more than likely it will join my Nintendo DS while they gather dust together. x_x

me either, I dont do well with handheld gaming. At least, not now a days. Back in the days I use to have a gameboy and use it quite often but not anymore. Handhelds are better for a younger generation but should get better in due time. When handhelds have ps3 graphics then I may get more into it. People now a days are more busy playing with their cellphones, ipods, ipads, etc..

Lol well you can watch movies, play games, download mostly anything from the PSN store, listen to music (mp3 player) there is a wifi browser you can use too. Unfortunatelly it does not support most PS3 apps such as Home and it cannot toast your bagel, but it might burn it! Razz

I have the original PSP and all it does is collect dust almost since the day i got it back in its first launch. It really sucks that I have no way of playing my UMD disc games on the PSP Go, which is one of the turn off reasons I haven't bought a PSP Go. In any case, I bought an iPod Touch 4G so I don't think i'll be getting a PSP Go unless something epic happens to it.

Smile What's awsome about the psp go is you will never lose your games!! But where in heck can you get another charger T-T!! Was able to get a new chord but no new adaptor soo sucks as life and what a fail they should understand sometimes a person will lose their charger =/!! And i agree its annoying you can't play disc games from the previous psp orginal practically the psp go is just smaller with a limited amount of games given by psn. Another good side is that the downloads arent that slow and i was able to download my games between classes all you need is interenet Smile - and skype is automatically included within the psp go i just havent actually tried to see if a mic is attached too
