Sticky Donating to Japan after the 8.9 earthquake

Post by SPADEZ Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:35 am

If you've been living under a rock, you wouldn't know that Japan was recently hit by a 8.9 Earthquake followed by a tsunami that was created from the earthquake. The quake was so massive that it sent multiple tsunamis across the pacific ocean, placing Hawaii and the west coast on high alert for possible impact. Hawaii and the west coast of California were hit but the damage was not servere in comparison to Japan. Later that same day, Japan was hit with an after shock of 6.4 on the rector scale. People thought this was another earthquake, however, it was in fact an after shock of a previous earthquake Japan received 2 days before. The death toll in Japan has been rapidly climbing since this event took place on Friday, March 11th 2011. They estimate over 10,000 dead, not including the ones still missing.

This is a horrible and devastating event that took place due to uncontrollable acts of mother nature. If you too feel compassion for those who lost their lives and the families who are without home and lost everything, I encourage you to donate. It doesn't have to be much, $5 if you can would make you feel better knowing you offered your hand to help them. Here is a list of charities accepting donations for Japans relief fund.

    • Save The Children: Mobilising to provide immediate humanitarian relief in the shape of emergency health care and provision of non-food items and shelter. Call 1800 76 00 11 or visit http://www.savethechildren.org.au

    • Red Cross: Donors can contribute to the relief efforts by calling 800-733-27677 or visiting http://www.redcross.org. Each text message is a $10 donation to the Red Cross, which will be added to the donors’ next cellphone bill.

    • Mercy Corps: Mercy Corp has not sent its own team to Japan but it set up a donation fund for its partner, Peace Winds Japan, and its emergency assistance on the ground. To make a donation, call 888-747-7440 or visit http://www.mercycorps.org/donate/japan.

    • Medical Teams International: Medical Teams International is also on alert and staying closely in touch with its nine partners along the coast and in Japan. To donate to Medical Teams International, visit http://www.medicalteams.org.

    • World Vision Canada: World Vision is among the first organisations to begin relief work by distributing emergency supplies and sending highly-trained staff to assess and respond to the most urgent needs. To donate, visit http://www.worldvision.ca/give-a-gift/Pages/Pacific-Tsunami.aspx

    • Medecins Sans Frontiers: Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides emergency medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 60 countries. MSF workers are already on ground in Japan, assessing the situation. For more visit http://www.msf.org/msf/donations/donations_home.cfm

    • DFAT: Assistance helpline: +61 2 6261 3305. DFAT hotline for Australians concerned about family and friends: 1300 555 135. Visit http://www.dfat.gov.au/

Please do your research on other charities and make sure to run a search on those charities to confirm if they are legitimate before donating, do not get caught in a scam. The above charities are ones that I know of to be legitimate, please do what you can to support.

Our prayers from The-EN.com go out to everyone in Japan.

This is one of the most devastating events in history. I happened to be awake at the late hour when this tragedy was being broadcasted. It brought tears to my eyes because of the footage that was shown. So many people are suffering, many have lost friends and loved ones. My heart goes out to all those affected by the tsunami. We can only hope that the world can come together and aid in the tsunami relief as much as they can.

This is really sad news... As Meesh said, all the footage throughout the internet are truly heart breaking. Watching all those people helplessly become devoured by massive quakes and waves of destruction made my heart drop. Not to mention they are currently struggling to keep a nuclear power plant from exploding (again)... I will be donating what I can to the Red Cross.

PS @Vicky - How are you so certain the charities in America will not go out to Japan to aide them?

Interesting info, thanks, I will look more into it before donating.

Isn't it strange that the towers fell on the 11th..Haiti earthquake the 11th...Japan earthquake the 11th...huricane katrina was the 11th hurricane discovered..2012 is exactly 11yrs after 9 /11 which is wen the END is to happen...now how could these events occur on the same day?

Luke 21:10-11 Then Jesus said to his disciples: "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquake s, famine and pestilence in various places, and fearful events and great signs from Heaven." Jesus says "For behold I come quickly, [so ask yourself r u ready]?"
