This topic interests me because the virtual world is the place where you meet the coolest people from all around the world. I don't know if its just me but local default citizens bore me to death haha. The question that most ask me "Why does this virtual stuff catch most of your attention? Why do you take it serious? IT ISN'T REAL". My answer; It catches my attention cause of the fact of great communication. People listen to you as you listen to people and share stories or goals in life. NETWORKING is a good example and it is as real as the person is behind an avatar controlling it who also has feelings of a human being.

Then there is the couple who fall in love online. Whether its near or far or just behind the computer, it's the same thing. There is no specific rule for this only the opinions of the closed minded trolls that cannot control what others heart feels. I, for example, am deeply in love with someone that is half way across the world as she feels the same for me. I wont let anyone stop me from being with her (not even a sexy woman with an hour glass body batting her eyelashes at me). All that is being typed may make me look like a loser but those that believe that are stating there closed-minded opinions. Open your senses and look around to see that not only the world itself can be a sad/touching story or a venomous poison but the virtual world can also be. Here's a story from CBC about Second life, take a look:

My SL avatar Ramona..lolol..has fallen comatose, as I haven't signed on in a long while. What I can say about the virtual/online world, is that it's meant for some people. What difference does it make if online communication sparks interest for people. I personally think it's fun. It's a great way to get to know new people, and as Cru stated, have friends from all over. There are real people behind the IDs or avatars with real emotions and feelings. Trust is definitely a huge issue for online relationships, whether they're strictly platonic or romantic. You kind of have to give the other person the benefit of the doubt and hope they're the people they say they are. I've been an online person since the old dial up AOL chatroom days. I enjoy communicating online via ps3 Home, forums, and sometimes Second Life. Just as long as you find some sort of balance between your virtual reality and your real life, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. We're in a day and age where everything is practically online/internet based. It's not something new, and shouldn't be looked down upon. Someone's always going to be hating whether it's online or irl. Since romantic relationships are a trend these days, if you're happy with who you've fallen in love with, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. What I can say is, it can be difficult with the trust issue..that the person you're friends with or involved with is who they say they are..always keep some part of your guard up..until you are actually able to meet that person irl..if you both decide to... sometimes, it's not always a happy ending..and who knows, maybe it could be meant to be. Just take precautions, cuz ya never know!
